A word on the good, a hint at my heresy + Fujifilm X-M1

Ho world, you beautiful world you.

I have not been posting much lately, as I have been quite busy.
Also, I seem to have fallen back into the thinking that my greatest ideas are not meant for this medium. So, when I ponder by pencil, I tend not to post much here.

mmm, though it seems to besmirch this website of mine, I believe my doing so makes sense; some of my ideas, perhaps my most important ones, are heretical in nature. As such, I would like to develop and refine them fully, and then release them in a more accredited medium, something that will draw more critical minds.

DJI PHANTOM FIREWORKS – A civilian drone flies through a fireworks display.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could save the fireworks until such time as we address critical problems of the world, the existential crisis which faces all known life?

Well, it may not be nice, because we may find there to be stark absence of fireworks. Unless, of course, we actually do something about the problems of the world.

It’s not like we have a choice.
Well… I guess we *do* have a choice, but many of the choices are about the same…

We either destroy the ecosystem with industry and consumption, or we destroy ourselves with war, or most tragically, we just fritter away the days until some natural catastrophe ends all life and progress on Earth.

Well, it’s ether those three likely scenarios, or the fourth option: that we get our shit together, and begin acting not as mere animalia, but as animals who have recognized that we have a responsibility to ourselves and to the rest of creation to use our advanced minds for the good of all.

Of course, before we are able to get our shit together, we must first be able to recognize exactly what we are, and from this to find this highest good, applicable to all.

mmm

And then, in the face of pessimism, and ever-present conflicting ideologies, we must move forward with the good which survives our honest and critical examination. For, the national socialists of the early 20th century thought that exterminating non-Aryans was a good idea. And, in a sick and poorly thought-out sense, it was a good… a good particular to them, and only them.

The good is not a destination, it is a direction. For, we are constantly changing, and with this changes our good. And so what we require is a good fundamental to all life everywhere in the cosmos, and then we need to frame it in a way that allows us to change, and to be forever served by this good.

Further, we must serve the good.

To expect that it will serve us without our doing anything is akin to expecting an all-powerful deity, external to this world, to come and save us all from ourselves, and our shortsighted fears and ways of fear.

I am here hinting at my heretical ideas.

The good, our responsibility, the imperative to act with the greatest collective in mind, while being ever weary of losing the individual to the pursuit of good of the group. For, what good is the group if its members suffer?

mmm

In time, my friends. In time.

Life would be so much easier if I had someone funding me.
I spend so much time worrying about my high-stress occupation. To add insult to injury, the work which I do for my wage is not in-line with the universal good which I try to capture in thought.

sigh

Hell, it would be even easier if I could be as Socrates… that I could just think and speak openly, and then have my trusted student Plato write down my ideas in a manner which commands attention and contemplation on behalf of the reader.

How vain of me, haha.

I’m sure everyone’s ideas, and surely the ones they hold most dear, seem to be of the highest importance.

And I’m sure they are important, so keep at them.

I hope that your ideas flow well, and when you are ready, that others listen with keen interest and generous criticality.

Oh look, I got a new camera, Fujifilm X-M1

Maybe when I am not posting words or links, I can instead upload photos of mine.

Take care,

About Ossington

I often think but seldom share these thoughts. And if the product of my thinking is to affect anything but my own sense of satisfaction, then surely it must be shared. Here you may try to know what I believe to know.
